Golf

About the golf

Déva Golf Course extends across a magnificent, sprawling property in New Caledonia. The fairways are fairly wide, welcoming and slightly winding, weaving their way majestically through the niaoulis, native trees which are distant cousins to eucalyptus. Despite all this, be careful, because the semi-roughs are rather narrow, and a ball that goes off course can easily get stuck in the underbrush or in the intense bush roughs, where recovery shots are difficult to pull off.

HISTORY

The golf course was the first one in Oceania from Dye Designs Group, the American architectural firm launched by the famous Pete Dye. Dye knew just how to show off the site to its best advantage, maintaining its ecosystem and topography wherever possible. The result, in the opinions of the first players, was astonishing: “The course is on par with the best golf courses in Australia and New Zealand, which Caledonians visit frequently”.

Course

The course

  • 18 holes: Par 72. Length: 6,663 metres.

The tee areas are immense, with four or five per hole. Black balls are reserved for use by pros. Because of these multiple tees, it is important to choose your markers carefully, because some tee shots may demand a very long carry.

PRACTICE AREAS

  • Driving range: 25 bays on turf, with unlimited balls presented in pyramids
  • Putting green with a pitching green and two practice bunkers
